The Weather Channel

The Weather Channel app is the official application from the aforementioned channel to deliver instant alerts and weather news to users around the United States (and certain international users).

Over time, this app has greatly evolved. Older reviews complain that it did not keep track of where the user was, that it was sloppy, displayed incorrect alerts, etc. However, newer updates have ameliorated most of these problems. It uses the phone's GPS or the user's zip code input to show weather live. There are customizable alerts, so you can get an alert if there is a large storm coming or your children's school is closed.

There is also a live radar for the weather buffs. This means that you can have your own equivalent to what is used on the news to describe weather right in your pocket. It has a great interface and makes it very easy to look ahead in meteorology. Overall, the app is much better than it used to be. The main selling point is the ability to set custom weather alerts. While there are lots of other weather apps, this is the only one that allows such specific alert requests, and the alerts actually send at the proper time.

The only thing that most users said needed to be improved was the lack of mPoints. mPoints are a currency used to earn free gift cards, and The Weather Channel app used to award these to users but stopped it. Some users were disgruntled that they could no longer receive mPoints from this app, so be warned!

Cons:

• Suddenly stopped giving mPoints out
• A bit heavy on advertising
